Wiedźmin: Stary Świat - Magowie

The Witcher: Old World - Mages (Wiedźmin: Stary Świat - Magowie) is an expansion that adds five playable sorcerers. Each has a miniature, a player board and a unique ability, and they all use a shared spell deck instead of witcher action cards. You need the Witcher: Old World base game to play.

How a mage differs from a witcher

Instead of defence a mage develops knowledge, and instead of a shield there is an energy track. Mages gain energy from cards and abilities and spend it to empower spells: extra damage, wards or card draw. Spells belong to the four elements (water, fire, air, earth) and to the domain of the mind, and a mage resolves a combo card by card, left to right.

Mage special abilities:

• Ardea - levitation
• Gekhira - necromancy
• Othar - teleportation
• Filippa - polymorphism, with an effect based on a die roll

Mages only or mages with witchers

Before the game you decide whether everyone plays a mage or the table is mixed. In the first case the spell deck replaces the witcher cards. In the second the board holds two separate decks and two card markets, and mages and witchers can fight each other. A mage takes the school of a witcher who is not in the game.

Mages combine with all the other expansions: Skellige, Legendary Hunt, Monster Trail, the Adventure Pack and Wild Hunt. The rulebook suggests learning each one separately first.
