Pitch Black: Mega Darkrai ex and the dark side of the region

Pitch Black takes Mega Evolution into the night: city lights and starry skies fade as Mega Darkrai ex arrives. The set has more than 20 Trainer cards and more than 35 Pokémon and Trainer cards with special illustrations, so the packs in this ETB are worth opening both for decks and for the binder.

The set features six Mega Evolution Pokémon ex: Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex, Mega Delphox ex, Mega Slowbro ex and Mega Excadrill ex. A taste of how they play: after Mega Slowbro ex uses Shellnado Spin, any attack that damages it during your opponent's next turn puts 12 damage counters on the attacker.

Regular Pokémon ex include Morpeko ex and Rampardos ex. The Special Illustration Rares collectors chase include Mega Darkrai ex, Morpeko ex and the Trainer Gwynn.

What the ETB is good for

An Elite Trainer Box is the easiest way to start playing a new set without hunting for accessories separately. 40 Energy cards are enough to build a first deck from your pulls, and 65 sleeves cover a full 60-card tournament deck with a few spares. Damage dice, the coin-flip die and the coin are everything you need at the table.

Collectors pick the ETB for the Zarude promo and the box itself: six dividers split it into sections, so set cards, Energy and accessories each have their place. It is also a popular gift for anyone who plays or collects Pokémon, since one box gives both pack opening and things that last.

ETB or single booster packs

If you just want to try the set, single Pitch Black booster packs will do. The ETB makes sense when you need sleeves, Energy and accessories along with the cards, or when you want the Zarude promo, which is not in the packs.

Pokémon TCG in a nutshell

The Pokémon Trading Card Game is a collectible card game for two players. Each player brings a 60-card deck, puts Pokémon into play, attaches Energy and attacks the opponent's Pokémon. The Mega Evolution series brings back Mega Evolution from the video games as Mega Evolution Pokémon ex: they hit hard, but when one is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 3 Prize cards.
