What is in the starter deck

70 cards is exactly what a game needs: a 50-card main deck (characters, items and events), a 15-card scene deck, a main character card and 4 story cards. The playmat shows where cards go, so the first game runs without hunting for rules. The face of this deck is Twilight Sparkle.

The Friendships Begin set

Friendships Begin is the starter line of the game: 68 card designs across 9 rarities (CR 6, GR 6, SR 6, U 7, C 9, SPR 10, ER 6 plus shining RR※ 6 and ER※ 12). Each of the six ponies, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity, has her own deck.

The Friendships Begin boosters in the decks hold 5 cards: 2 commons, a U or SPR, an ER scene or its shining version and an SR card. According to the publisher, in 1 of 3 boosters the SR is replaced by a GR, CR or a shining RR※.

In My Little Pony TCG the rarity also tells you the card type. Characters and story cards run through C, U, SR, GR and CR (common to colorful rare), main character cards are RR (ruby rare), items and events SPR (sapphire rare) and scenes ER (emerald rare). The rarest are the shining versions, marked with ※ before the card number.

Which deck to start with

Each of the six decks is complete and plays on its own. For two people starting together, take two different decks; all six come in the Friendships Begin starter deck display. Boosters from sets such as Nightmare Night or Fantasy Wonderlands add new cards to the deck.
