The Icons 2027 Edition booster display for Star Wars: Unlimited holds 24 packs of 9 cards, 216 cards in total from the game's first mini-set. Icons gathers the saga's best-known characters and is meant as a way in for new and returning players, but its new cards have power comparable to a standard set, so they also end up in tournament decks.

What's in the Icons 2027 display

The box holds 24 Icons 2027 Edition booster packs. According to the publisher, every pack contains:

• 3 commons
• 1 slot with a 25% chance of a leader and otherwise a fourth common
• 1 Hyperspace common
• 2 uncommons, each of which can upgrade to a Hyperspace uncommon, a rare or a legendary
• 1 rare or legendary
• 1 Hyperspace foil of any rarity

Across the display that is at least 24 rares or legendaries, 24 Hyperspace commons and 24 foils, plus 48 uncommon slots, some of which will upgrade to rarer cards. You get about six leaders per box on average, but the number varies, because an Icons pack does not guarantee a leader.

How Icons differs from a standard set

Icons is a new type of set that the publisher calls a miniature "fourth set" in the yearly cycle. It has 194 cards instead of 250+, and a different make-up:

• Commons are all reprints from earlier sets, some with new art.
• Uncommons are partly reprints, many with new art, such as Grogu and Savage Opress. The rest are new.
• Rares and legendaries are all new, and every one is a unique unit featuring a fan-favourite character.
• No new mechanics - the set only uses keywords found in every set, and just a handful of cards have complex abilities.

Icons has no Spotlight Decks and no Carbonite Edition packs. Unlike Intro Battle: Hoth, whose cards were designed for learning the game, the new Icons cards are as strong as a regular expansion.

Icons 2027 characters and leaders

The set has eight leaders, all of them new cards. The publisher has shown two of them, with cards that support them:

• Darth Vader (Vigilance and Villainy) - for a resource and the defeat of a friendly unit he draws a card and heals your base. He pairs with cheap units such as Death Star Stormtrooper or Onyx Squadron Brute with its When Defeated ability, and with Moff Gideon, who costs less to play after you lose a unit.
• Princess Leia (Cunning and Heroism) - puts a card of your choice on top of your deck. She works with C-3PO, You're My Only Hope and the new Jar Jar Binks.

The rares include Darth Sidious, who damages enemy units whenever you heal your base, Millennium Falcon, which replays a friendly unit for one resource, The Inquisitor's TIE, Lando Calrissian and Grand Admiral Thrawn. The previewed legendary is Anakin Skywalker: when defeated he searches your deck for a Darth Vader unit and removes aspect penalties from your Vader cards. New uncommons already in the publisher's card database include Qui-Gon Jinn, Red Leader, Commander Pyre and Eighth Brother.

What the Icons display is good for

The publisher notes that Icons packs are not designed for draft or sealed: they hold only 9 cards and do not guarantee a leader or base. The display is a box for collecting and deckbuilding.

• New players get a base of cards for their first decks from one box, with leaders and rares from one coherent set.
• Competitive players get 24 new rares or legendaries, legal from the set's launch until it rotates together with A Lawless Time, Ashes of the Empire and Homeworlds. After rotation they stay playable in Eternal, where every released card is legal.

Display, 4-pack or Starter Box

To start from scratch there is the Icons Starter Box with two decks and a four-game introduction. The booster 4-pack adds an alternate-art Cassian Andor card that the display does not have. The display makes sense when you want to collect the set or build several decks at once.
