What is in the Rapunzel Collection Starter Set

Each of the four booster packs has a fixed 12-card distribution: 6 commons, 3 uncommons, 2 rare or higher (rare, super rare or legendary) and 1 foil card of any rarity. Across the set that is 24 commons, 12 uncommons, 8 rares or better and 4 foils from the packs. On top of that you get the Rapunzel promo card, which is not part of regular booster pack contents.

Rapunzel: the promo card and a portfolio for your first cards

The set is built around Rapunzel from Tangled. Rapunzel - Ethereal Protector is a glimmer foil promo card. The Rapunzel - High Climber portfolio gives the promo and your best pulls a proper home from day one instead of a loose pile in a box.

Can you play straight out of the box?

Worth knowing before you buy: a Collection Starter starts a collection, it is not a ready-to-play deck. There is no preconstructed deck in the box, and a Lorcana deck needs at least 60 cards. The set gives you 48 random cards plus one fixed promo across different ink colors. That is good material to learn on: you get to know card types, colors and abilities, then add booster packs and build your first deck from them.

Disney Lorcana basics for new players

Disney Lorcana is a collectible card game from Ravensburger featuring Disney characters. The key rules:

• the first player to reach 20 lore wins, earned by sending characters on quests;
• a deck has at least 60 cards, no more than 4 copies of any card, and cards from one or two ink colors (out of six: Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Steel);
• once per turn you can put one eligible card into your inkwell - that ink pays for the cards you play.

The Quick Start rules and the Comprehensive Rules are free to download from the official disneylorcana.com site.

How to start and what to add next

Open the four packs and sort the cards by ink color. With 48 cards you will quickly see which colors and characters you like. Pick two colors and add Attack of the Vine! booster packs until you have 60 cards for a deck. If you want a lot of the set at once, an Attack of the Vine! booster box is the easier route. The Collection Starter works best as a first purchase: cards, somewhere to keep them, and a promo you will not pull from a pack.
