Attack of the Vine!: the Vine, Vinelings and three Pixar films

The Vine is the first Lorcana character that comes from the game's own world rather than a Disney film. It grows leafy copies of familiar characters called Vinelings, such as Gaston and Pete.

Three Pixar films join the game:

• Monsters, Inc. - Sulley, Mike Wazowski, Boo and Randall, plus the dual card Sulley & Boo - Scare Buddies
• Up - Carl Fredricksen and Russell, also together on Carl Fredricksen & Russell - Intrepid Explorers
• Turning Red - Meilin Lee (including Popular Red Panda and Lead Vocalist) with the new Red Panda classification

The Hundred Acre Wood crew also returns as an adventuring party: Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Roo and Christopher Robin carry the Hunny classification.

New mechanics: four kinds of Shift

Shift lets you play a character on top of another version of the same character for less. Attack of the Vine! expands it four ways:

• Duo Shift - a dual-named character goes on top of two separate characters at once, one for each name (e.g. Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse - Adventuring Duo).
• Combo Shift - the card goes on one character matching either name, or on two at once (e.g. Dash Parr & Violet Parr - Super Siblings).
• Temporary Shift - the character shifts in for one turn, then returns to your hand (Meilin Lee - Popular Red Panda).
• Potato Shift - Posey - Vampire Potato shifts onto an item named Potato, the first Shift onto something other than a character.

New classifications are Team, Red Panda, Boss and Vineling. The 38 special-rarity cards are 18 Epic, 18 Enchanted and 2 Iconic: Belle & Beast - Certain as the Sun and Lilo & Stitch - Fun-Loving Friends.

What a full booster box is good for

A booster box is the simplest way into the core of the set. 48 rare-or-higher cards from one box are enough to build your first decks around the new Shift cards.

It also works for limited play. A prerelease kit has 6 packs, so one box equals four such sealed pools for a group of friends. Attack of the Vine! is the first set released under the new rotation, which makes its cards a good base for a competitive deck.

Booster, booster box or Trove

Single Attack of the Vine! booster packs are enough to try the set. The Illumineer's Trove adds play accessories to the packs. The booster box makes sense once you want to build decks or collect the set: 24 packs is where the rare cards add up to several playable decks.

Disney Lorcana at a glance

Disney Lorcana is a trading card game from Ravensburger. A deck has at least 60 cards in up to two of the six ink colors, and the first player to collect 20 lore wins.
