StarCraft: Defiler - Zerg - Expansion Set

The Defiler - Zerg - Expansion Set is an add-on for StarCraft: Tabletop Miniatures Game with the Defiler, a support unit players remember from the days of Brood War. It doesn't win fights with claws, it shapes the battlefield: it shields your units from ranged fire and breaks packed enemy lines with plague.

The pieces are HIPS plastic, unassembled and unpainted.

The Defiler's three tools

• Dark Swarm - place the token, and your nearby units may make evade rolls against all attacks in the Assault Phase. Size-one units such as Zerglings also get +1.
• Consume - the Defiler devours a nearby friendly model to lower the biomass cost of its abilities. The publisher openly suggests eating Zerglings, not Roaches.
• Plague - a template that deals non-lethal damage to a group of enemies. The more biomass you spend, the harder it hits.

The Defiler won't survive a serious brawl on its own, so keep it behind the line, close to the units it protects.

What to play it with

Zerglings gain the most: Dark Swarm improves their evades, and spare ones fuel Consume. That makes the Defiler a natural fit with the Zergling Expansion Set. For your core army, the Zerg Starter Set comes with 18 Zerglings.

How many miniatures are in the box?
One Defiler miniature. The other pieces are the burrow and Dark Swarm tokens and the Plague template.

Does the Defiler fight in melee?
It isn't built for that. It's a support unit that protects allies and weakens enemies.

Do I need a starter set?
The expansion has no rules or dice. The rules are free on the publisher's website, and the Zerg starter gives you units to protect.

How much space and time does a game take?
The small format plays on a 36" x 36" table in about an hour, the standard one on 54" x 36" in about two hours, once both players know the rules.
