What Founders Edition means
Founders Edition boxes are the first StarCraft TMG starter sets, made in a single print run and marked with a special edition tag. The later single-faction starters, the Terran Starter Set and Zerg Starter Set, each give you one army with no hero, playmat, terrain or dice. This is the only starter with both armies, Raynor and Kerrigan, and the table kit in one box.
Two 1000-mineral armies
The rulebook lists ready-made army lists for both sides of this starter, each at exactly 1000 minerals, the Skirmish scale. The Terrans play as Raynor's Raiders with Marines, Marauders, Medics and Jim Raynor; the Zerg play as Kerrigan's Swarm with Zerglings, Roaches, the Queen and Kerrigan. The Point Defense Drone is a summoned unit with no mineral cost. Skirmish is played on a 36 x 36 in table; the included mat is sized for the Standard scale (54 x 36 in) once your armies grow to 2000 minerals.
How StarCraft: Tabletop Miniatures Game plays
Players alternate activating one unit at a time instead of moving whole armies. Your army starts in reserve and enters the table as Supply allows, and losses immediately free room for reinforcements. Minerals buy units, Vespene Gas buys tactical cards. A game lasts 5 rounds and you score by completing mission objectives.
Where to go next
The full rules with worked examples and maps are in the StarCraft: Core Rules Book. Grow your armies with unit expansions such as Marine or Zergling, and your table with the Lost Temple terrain set.
Frequently asked questions
Are the miniatures painted?
No. They come on sprues and need assembly; painting is not required to play.
Do I need the rulebook?
Not to start: a Rules Reference is in the box. The publisher offers the full rules as a free PDF, and the Core Rules Book is the printed version.
How long is a game?
According to the publisher, about an hour at Skirmish scale and about two hours at Standard, once both players know the rules.
What language is it?
English: cards, Rules Reference and manual.
Can more than two people play?
The rules support team games (e.g. 2 vs 2), but you will need more miniatures than one starter provides.
