StarCraft: Zerg - Starter Set

StarCraft: Zerg Starter Set is the Zerg starter army for StarCraft: Tabletop Miniatures Game by Archon Studio. The box holds 26 miniatures, a swarm of Zerglings with Hydralisks, Roaches and a Queen, plus cards, tokens and bases. The publisher designed it as a first Zerg force of 1000 minerals.

Models come unpainted and unassembled, in plastic on sprues. Painting is optional.

A 1000-mineral swarm

The Zerg win through numbers, and this starter shows it: 18 Zerglings is more models than the whole Terran starter army. The publisher sums up the plan simply: Zerglings up front, Roaches and Hydralisks in support, and the Queen passing on your commands.

The rulebook's example army (Zerg Swarm faction) uses the whole box: 18 Zerglings as Swarmlings, 3 Roaches as Corpsers, 4 Hydralisks and the Queen, exactly 1000 minerals with upgrades. The Zerg also have their own card type, Creep cards.

Zerg Starter Set or Founders Edition

Zerg also come in the Two Player Starter Set - Founders Edition, with Terrans, Kerrigan, terrain, a playmat and dice, but no Hydralisks. This starter is a Zerg army only, with no hero and no dice. Add Kerrigan with Kerrigan & Omega Worm and grow the swarm with Zergling or Hydralisk expansions.

Table size and game length

1000 minerals is the Skirmish scale: a 36 x 36 in (approx. 92 x 92 cm) battlefield. According to the publisher such a game takes about an hour once both players know the rules. The starter has no playmat or terrain; the Lost Temple set adds a playmat and 15 terrain pieces. When your swarm grows to 2000 minerals, you play at Standard scale on a 36 x 54 in table.
