StarCraft: Protoss - Starter Set

StarCraft: Protoss Starter Set is the Protoss starter army for StarCraft: Tabletop Miniatures Game by Archon Studio. The box holds 14 miniatures, Zealots, Adepts, Sentries and Stalkers, with cards, tokens and bases. The publisher designed it as a first Protoss force of 1000 minerals.

What's in the Protoss Starter Set

All models come unpainted and unassembled, in plastic on sprues. Painting is optional.

The Protoss units in the box

• Zealot - the backbone of the army, melee warriors. A unit is 3 models, so the box makes two units.
• Adept - fast specialists against lightly armoured targets, a 4-model unit.
• Sentry - support: a shield against ranged fire and Force Fields that block paths.
• Stalker - Nerazim walkers that fire at range and can blink to another position.

The rulebook's example army (Daelaam faction) uses one Zealot unit, 4 Adepts, 2 Sentries and 2 Stalkers with upgrades, exactly 1000 minerals. The second Zealot unit is left for other lists.

Base costs from the rulebook: a unit of 3 Zealots 160 minerals, 4 Adepts 150, 2 Sentries 130, Stalkers 170 for one or 270 for two. The publisher may adjust them in its living rules document.

Protoss Starter Set or Founders Edition

The Protoss Starter Set - Founders Edition is the earlier release with Artanis, a Pylon and dice, but no Stalkers. This starter has no dice and no hero: add dice with the Protoss Custom Dice Set and a commander with Artanis & Pylon.

Table size and game length

1000 minerals is the Skirmish scale: a 36 x 36 in (approx. 92 x 92 cm) battlefield. According to the publisher such a game takes about an hour once both players know the rules. The starter has no playmat or terrain; the Lost Temple set adds a playmat and 15 terrain pieces. When your army grows to 2000 minerals, you play at Standard scale on a 36 x 54 in table.

StarCraft: Tabletop Miniatures Game is a miniatures wargame licensed by Blizzard. Players alternate unit activations, armies arrive from reserve as Supply allows, and Vespene Gas pays for tactical cards. This starter is one player's army; your opponent needs their own.
