Star Wars Unlimited: Homeworlds - Carbonite Booster

The Homeworlds Carbonite booster for Star Wars: Unlimited is one premium pack from the ninth set: 16 cards, every one an art variant, one of them a Prestige card. It is the simplest way to try Carbonite without buying a whole display.

What's in a Homeworlds Carbonite pack

16 English-language cards:

• 1 Hyperspace or Showcase leader
• 1 Prestige card: standard, foil or serialized
• 14 Hyperspace and Hyperspace foil cards

Since A Lawless Time the publisher has removed standard foils from Carbonite and replaced them with more Hyperspace and Hyperspace foil cards.

Carbonite vs a regular Homeworlds pack

A regular Homeworlds pack guarantees one Hyperspace foil and at least one Hyperspace card, and holds a Prestige card roughly once every 18 packs. In a Carbonite Edition pack every one of the 16 cards is a variant, and the Prestige card is always there. On top of that:

• Three Prestige tiers - a standard version with new art and design, a version with Prestige-exclusive foiling, and a foiled, serial-numbered version. The two higher tiers are Carbonite-only, and serialized cards usually run to 250 copies, selected ones to 100 or 50.
• No new rules - Carbonite holds no mechanically unique cards, only variants of cards from the set.
• No reprint - Carbonite packs for a set are printed in a single wave.

Which cards can show up as variants

Homeworlds has 272 cards about the galaxy's planets and their defenders. 48 of them have a Prestige version, including Luke Skywalker, Queen Amidala, Maul, Emperor Palpatine, Mother Talzin and Saw Gerrera, plus monsters such as the Greater Sarlacc and the Dathomiri Rancor. The leader slot gives you one of the set's leaders as Hyperspace or Showcase, for example Darth Vader, Asajj Ventress, Maz Kanata, Cham Syndulla or Wicket. The publisher significantly lowered the Showcase leader rate in Carbonite compared with the line's first sets, so they keep their special feel.

Prestige versions also go to characters from Endor and Kashyyyk: Chewbacca, Chief Chirpa, Teebo, Logray, Krrsantan and King Grakchawwaa. Legendaries such as Qui-Gon Jinn, the Third Sister, Vernestra Rwoh and Mae have them too.

The bases take the game to Tatooine, Naboo, Endor and Kashyyyk, and the new mechanics are Fortify (upgrades that attach to your base) and the Beast (a 3/3 unit) and Weakness (-1/-1 for an enemy unit) tokens.

Single pack or display

One Carbonite pack lets you see the quality of the variants and try your luck with a Prestige card. Collectors who want more Hyperspace and Showcase leaders go for the Carbonite display with 12 packs, which means 12 Prestige cards. For play and drafting, regular Homeworlds packs or the 24-pack display fit better.
